Shop2Help Oakland:
Gift Cards That Give More
How you can help support Oakland Small Businesses
Started in October 2020, the Shop2Help Oakland gift card program aims to incentivize shoppers to show their support for their favorite shops, restaurants, and retailers in Oakland’s central business district. Buying gift cards is just one small way that anyone can take part in helping small business owners continue to persevere through the evolving, ongoing challenges brought on due to the pandemic. By purchasing a gift card, you are not only providing these businesses with much needed financial support right now, you are giving them the confidence to continue working every day to safely operate their business, employ staff, and get back to serving the community.
So if you’d normally find yourself in Oakland grabbing lunch, dinner, coffee, or a snack, ordering medicine, buying eyeglasses, picking up a gift for someone special, or anything else, consider purchasing a gift card for yourself or a friend. At a time when every dollar counts, the combined impact of many small acts can go a long way to ensuring that your favorite businesses not only survive the pandemic, but continue to thrive in Oakland for years to come.
Gift cards you purchase today can be redeemed at any time in the future and are subject to the terms of each individual businesses redemption policies.
The program will officially end on or before March 31, 2022.
Gift Cards That Give More
Thanks to funding from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Dollar Bank, and the efforts of our program partners, spending $25 today not only means you’ll receive $35 in gift card value that can be used at your favorite Oakland businesses any time in the future, it also means that 25 meals will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank – helping our neighbors overcome food insecurity and lead happy, healthy lives.
We also ask that you take one step further today and help us spread the word! HOW IT WORKS
The Shop2Help Oakland “Gift Cards That Give More” program is administered by the Oakland Business Improvement District (OBID) and is supported by community partners like Facture, Community Human Services, Richard King Mellon Foundation, Dollar Bank, and more.
By purchasing gift cards to your favorite Oakland businesses from this website, you are spending $25 and receiving an additional $10 in bonus funds (until grant funds are depleted and sales end). The full amount of this money goes directly to the business(es) you are supporting – who in turn donates 25% of the amount to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank – the equivalent of 25 meals donated per gift card.
After purchase, you will receive a confirmation email with your order details, and you will receive the physical gift card(s) by mail at the address you provided at checkout, or digital voucher(s) at the email address or phone number provided – typically within 7-14 days of purchase, but please see Terms & Conditions for details. If you have any questions about the process, please email the program administrator at giftcards@oaklandbid.org.
To redeem your gift card for purchase or to understand any restrictions that may apply, please contact the business directly.
Please note: Purchases made on this website are only eligible for the $10 bonus incentive (40%) until all initial program funds are depleted. If you happen to make a purchase after that point, a member of our team will reach out with various options.
